From Ages 4 to 5 Years: Preparing for Kindergarten with Confidence and Care
Between ages 4 and 5, your child takes a meaningful step toward independence, confidence, and readiness for kindergarten. At The Academy, our pre-kindergarten program supports this important stage through a nurturing early childhood environment where children feel safe to try, are encouraged to explore, and are proud of who they are becoming.
Language, Literacy, and Early Writing
In our pre-k program, your child builds literacy and early writing skills through storytelling, conversation, letter exploration, and guided writing led by caring classroom guides in our school community. These experiences support developing communication, confidence, and understanding, helping children express their sense of self and prepare for the next step in their early childhood journey.
Math Skills and Number Sense
Your child explores early math subjects through hands-on activities, games, counting, addition, and problem-solving that feel engaging and meaningful. This learning process strengthens logical thinking, adaptability, and confidence, supporting your child's development and their ability to approach challenges with curiosity.
Science and Sensory Exploration
In our early learning center, children experience science through experiments, observation, and sensory exploration, which spark curiosity about the world and life around them. These activities help kids develop understanding, critical thinking, and adaptability while fostering a love of learning.
Dramatic and Creative Play
Through imaginative play, role-playing, and creative expression, children explore relationships, emotions, and social roles within a supportive school environment. This process helps foster compassion, empathy, teamwork, and strong friendships as children learn to connect with others and grow within their community.
Blocks and Manipulative Play
Our students build, sort, and create using hands-on materials that strengthen fine motor skills, coordination, and problem-solving abilities. These activities support focus and perseverance while helping children develop the confidence and independence needed for success in preschools and beyond.
Art Exploration
Your child engages in art through painting, drawing, and creative projects that encourage self-expression and imagination. Art supports emotional development, creativity, and pride while helping children understand themselves and their place within the school and community.
Kinesthetic Movement and Physical Education
In our pre-k program, daily movement supports physical development, coordination, and emotional well-being through play and structured activities. These experiences help children adapt, build resilience, and develop healthy habits that support learning throughout early childhood.
Community Outreach and Service Learning
In our pre-k program, children participate in age-appropriate community outreach activities such as Senior Citizen connections, Adopt-A-Family initiatives, and seasonal food and coat drives. These guided experiences foster empathy, compassion, and a sense of responsibility.

My daughter has been going to The Academy since she turned 2. She's 5 now and going to start kindergarten in the fall. We love The Academy teachers and all staff. Everyone pitches in and has always been responsive to any requests/questions we've had. We get the regular updates to the app, which are also helpful. Love when we get the pictures. 🙂

We love Ms Nicole!! Our kiddo has such a close relationship with her. He has been learning so much in her class. Skills like dressing himself as well as daily routines and fun art projects. We love that he gets gym time especially when the weather isn’t nice enough for the kids to be outside. Everyday we drop him off knowing that he’s having a great time, learning, and feeling safe.
